Sapphire Coast

The Sapphire Coast of NSW, from which we take our name “Sapphire Blue”, is approximately 400 km south of Sydney, 600 km north of Melbourne, and 200 km east of Canberra.  Pambula is thought to be named from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘twin waters’.  Settlement of the area dates from the 1830s, and the township of Pambula was established in the 1840s.  Growth took place during the late 1800s with the discovery of gold nearby.  Other industries included horticulture, dairy farming, timber felling and oyster farming … and in later years, tourism.

80% of the Sapphire Coast is National Parks including 20% dedicated wilderness regions.  This region is very much an unspoilt, natural paradise with all the facilities of  modern living – vibrant communities, airport, private and public schools, hospitals, plus the full spectrum of sporting facilities – including golf courses, heated and enclosed aquatic centre swimming pools, boat launching facilities, surf club, pony club, and abundance of cycling and walking tracks. The Sapphire Coast is a place of dolphins, sea eagles, and whales; of spectacular coastal escarpment and lush farming country; of wilderness parks and endless golden beaches; of waterfalls and mountain streams, lagoons, lakes and fish filled estuaries; of country markets, festivals and galleries; of restaurants, cafes, wines, and cheeses; and … fragrant fresh air.
